Research Design: In regards to this study there was one independent variable and dependent variable present. The independent variable wasnthe level of authority (higher vs. lower) that individuals hold to the person who stutters. The dependent variable, therefore, was the severity of the stutter.

To test this, a simple survey approach was used for design, which enabled the study to capture thoughts regarding an individual's stuttering. For those subjects who stuttered, the simple survey approach let them expand on thoughts about their stuttering history. Non-stuttering students had the opportunity to reflect on what they deemed to be accurate thoughts about their experiences with individuals who stutter.

Subjects: Stuttering subjects were composed of individuals between the ages of 14 and 45, and chose to take the survey voluntarily in an online fashion. Non-stuttering subjects were compliled of college students and professors. Both subject groups were non-randomly chosen for the study, and were based on convenience.

Procedures: The stuttering subject pilot study consisted of seven subjects, with additional questions revolving thoughts and opinions of the survey. One additional question was added after the pilot was complete. The pilot for non-stuttering subjects consisted of one college classroom with 14 individuals completing the surveys. After similar questions were asked, no additional information was added to the survey.
